Happy Blogiverary To Me!
"I am who I am and if you don't like it..." That's LL's motto, I like it. It's your blog. Write what YOU want.
I honestly am not a gun fan but I enjoy the how and what of your writings. I enjoy the grueling work day, too.
AND if I don't like it ....I skip it and read the next thing.
No worries Be happy
I WANTZ MOAR EMS!
Seriously, though. While I like to read your EMS-related posts more than I do some of the others, I find the gun post interesting, and the snippets from whatever is going on in your day, ditto.
Besides, it's your blog. If this day in the life of an ambulance driver doesn't happen to be about EMS, I'll get over it and I'll also know that you're writing about that which you need to write about.
Oh, and by the way: purchased your book this evening. Can't wait to read it! See, your PAYING readers wantz more EMS, too!
Burnout? Muse clamming up? Time to do some homework, maybe? Here's what another 'net acquaintance had to say: http://bryonquertermous.wordpress.com/2009/04/1...>
Stress relief these days is hard to find. On the range or on the 'puter, I say keep it going. I'll be here, not there.
HM
Like you once said to me when I first started, "Write what you want to write from the heart." If you write it- they will come. Then they'll read the blog!
LOL
J
I'll probably stop coming if there isn't more EMS content. *shrug*
Nothing personal, but the blog right now isn't doing it for me :)
I love your blog - you are the polar opposite on the political and social spectrum to me - however, I really enjoy finding out about all aspects of your life and your beliefs, even if sometimes I find it hard to understand your point of view...
So - write about everything! :-) Whatever you want, whatever helps relieve your stress.
You're writing for yourself; not for the damned trolls. We just happen to be innocent bystanders watching trolls meet the runaway train.
If you write it, I will read.
That is all.
As you ask us what you should write about, my reply is.
You call your blog "a day in the life of an ambulance driver" it does not end with ..."at work only".
Write what you feel like writing about. Even if what was written was not something l liked or agreed with it is interesting to get a different perspective on it.
A good mix makes it more interesting and fun to read. A bit like eating a steak and fruit salad every day. Rather than just an apple a day.
I think you have the perfect mix of steak and fruit salad :-)
Your blog is about your LIFE, so write whatever you want. I'll keep coming back for more.
As for the gun-blogging... if only you weren't a... *shudder* Glock owner. ;-)
Hmm... word verification: ilien. Is that a sick "undocumented worker"?
I come here every morning, and plan to continue to do so.
And... you never did tell us what happened to Bitchy Partner...
Just like anybody's life, good days/bad days/weird days, they're all there.
This has to be, or should be, one place for you to do what you want.
all of it is well written and i find the humor some of the best on the net
Keep doing what you do.
But I agree - it is your blog and you can write about what fits best for you.
If you do otherwise, if you write stuff because you think you should, not because you want to, blogging becomes just another frakking job.
(word verification: "alogic"
But like the others, I would like to see Star of Life be resucitated!
You're doing fine! Take care of yourself!
Write what you want, as you think appropriate. As a soaked-in-Hoppe's gun nut I appreciate your gun tales, look forward to your stories about KatyBeth (your love letter had me in tears) and would like to hear more about Sumdood and his Asian sidekick, Sumgai.
Basically, your blog is all good. Just keep biting the heads off of the trolls.
Old Squid.
You write what you want and we can choose to read or not. You are not in EMS 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. Your job does not make you the man you are!
Judging by the amount of comments, I really don't think you have a great deal to worry about. You may loose a few readers who have difficulty with the gun stuff, but that shouldn't stop you writing about what you love.
I'll still be reading!!!
I'd like to see more of the things that please
you.
I'd like to see people remember that, when it comes right down to it, this blog was created
by
you and
for
you, first and foremost as a form of catharsis, like 99% of blogs are.
I love to read about your 'bolance escapades, I'm touched by the complete and utter adoration with which you talk about your daughter, and I get a serious kick out of your potty humour. I don't know a lick about guns, though, so when you've updated about a little bit of recoil therapy with your Glock 17 and High Standard Crusader 1911 - whatever the hell those are - I skim, skip, and come back later.
No offense, AD, but it doesn't affect much in the grand scheme of my life.
I just wait until you've written about something I can understand, like the eternal inconvenience that is Sumdood. Then I read, I laugh, I think, and I walk away a little happier for having found your blog however many years ago I did.
Write about whatever the hell you want, man. For what it's worth, I'll always be reading. :)
Summary: Do what makes you happy, but I want moar EMS
Do I enjoy your "work" posts? Of course, because I usually learn something from them. But there's a thousand EMS blogs out there, and I could probably learn something from many of them. That's not why I keep coming back.
You keep doing what you're doing. Can't please everybody, nor should you try. THAT'S what kills a blog.
I enjoy all of your stuff because you are super at putting to paper what is on your mind. and your range is fantastic.
Don't stop. If you try to p,ease everyone you WILL fail. All of us rednecks who can read love your stuff and we read it to those who can't.
Write for yourself.
Of course you're going to pimp your book. Don't you make some money off of the sales?
If people really don't like it, why are they still hanging around? I think some people just need something to bitch about.
Men talking about guns kinda turns me on. Probably why I married a soldier all those years ago. It's kinda sexy when men talk about manly things.
Now I need some time... *ahem*... alone...
Sumdood is always cool too though... It's scary how true it is!
I like the stories that illuminate the humanity of day to day living as spouses and parents. The challenges we face, the feelings we have the thoughts we battle, are all part and parcel of the deal. You help me want to be a better spouse and parent.
I like the firearm discussions. Not because I want to wipe out humanity, but because I enjoy the artform of the sport. You make me want to be a better, responsible firearm owner.
I like the toilet humor, because there is nothing more human than bodily functions. And, nothing is funnier than bodily functions at inopportune times--when it's someone ELSE. You make me want to laugh more.
Frankly, AD, your talent is a blessing that would be wasted if you didn't share it among your various media. As a greedy reader of yours, my only disappointment comes when I check the blog and find no new entries for more than a day or so. I'll stop before I blow entirely too much sunshine up your ass, but know that most of us just want to hear what's happening in the life of AD.
Shameless beg from an EMS type. More EMS stuff. Hehehe.
I want to answer a different question; the one I think you're really asking, but don't know how.
Why would you write this post in the first place? You clearly understand the whole "it's your blog" thing, and it's < HREF="http://ambulancedriverfiles.blogspot.com/2009/04/why-yes-happy-hospitalist.html" REL="nofollow">ridiculously obvious
that you are perfectly secure not giving a rat's ass what anyone thinks of you. So why would you solicit our opinions?
I think it's because part of what may be going on in your Real Life(tm) is some loneliness, and what you're really looking for is some lurve. So without trying to parse posting preferences, here it is straight up:
Behind these screens are real flesh-and-blood people who give a damn, whether you post gun stories, EMS stories, KatyBeth stories, or your grocery list. Our regard for you may have come from the blog, but it doesn't depend on the blog. Even if you never wrote another word, our feelings wouldn't change. We love you, and we care about you.
So there.
The day you write for someone else, and not yourself, is the day you should stop writing completely.
I'm here to read what you write. The subject has never mattered.
#1 Dinosaur -- with THE cutest picture -- may have hit gold there.
Life gettin' you down? People annoying you a tad too much? Come to your blog for love and happiness -- well, kinda.
I'm teasing you, but if you had all these people in a room would you believe it? That they're all telling you to do what you want and nobody is giving you any crap about anything -- altho, there does seem to be a general opinion that they're not big gun nuts. That's interesting.
For me, if I had 50 some goshdarn people patting me on the back, I'd count myself as a darn lucky person.
OR -- were you just doing a contest for a Friday to see biggest number of comments?
Oh, and the three stooges.
WV: flation -- when the tire pressure stays constant and the value of the dollar does the same?
Guns are good, and our 2nd Admenment right.
Kids...are always a good subject too.
Keep up the interesting blogs.
I love the stories you tell. Whether they're about KatyBeth, or BP or a prank you pulled years ago.
I'm not as big on the gun blogging, but hey, it's your blog, who am I to say what you should put on it.
Oh crap-I guess that was a comment. I'm no longer a lurker.
You has it.
ps. word verification: nestimf ?
Face it, you're just a fun guy to read about.
That said, writers of your caliber are too damned rare, and I'd encourage you to keep writing, whatever you write.
I read you in the main because of the way you write, not the subject matter. I'm one of the grammar nazis, and it's a relief that I never go through your blog with a mental red pen. I can't overstate how appreciative I am of that fact. Add in your obvious grasp of narrative structure, pacing, & humor, and I read you to remind myself how I want to write.
And for the giggles. 'Cause God knows I'd love a good excuse to whap my ex-husband in the face with a plate o' whipped cream.
MoB
I have to say the medical tales and Katy Beth stories are the best. Far and away.
But I didn't come here to read about these specific subjects. I drifted over based on the comments you leave on LawDog. I like the way you think, regardless of the subject.
I suspect, even where I strongly disagreed with your POV on a particular subject, I would still enjoy reading it, because of teh manner in which you grind data between your ears.
Write what comes -- the absolute worst blogs are those where the bloggist has nothing to say "on topic", and spends an hour each day saying blabbing on about stuff even THEY aren't interested in.
Your stuff? Why, I'd pay
twice
what I currently do to subscribe! [grin]
A Day In the Life (of anyone) is not just about working. It is about family, recreation, church, food, and looking at what those girls think they ought to wear.
I would like to hear more about what keeps the routine nature of even this job from getting boring. How do you stay happy about going to work?
I have enjoyed reading Siren Voices, where the blogger sets the scene with some great descriptions. That is also what I like to read here.
I gave my son, who just turned 17, your book for his birthday. He believes that he wants to go into medicine. Please write some observations and advice for people who want to go into medicine to "help people", or to "make money."
Thanks for writing, and keep it up. Hurricane season is just around the corner. How are you and your "clients" going to get ready?
Please continue as you are now.....your stories experiences are great whether ems related or not....loved the one about louisiana by the way....
How about that story about the partner, that I believe you put in her place awhile ago?
You have hinted at it before, but I think I am not the only one waiting with bated breadth.
Here's to waiting.
Stay Safe,
Medic2RN
Three cheers to #1 Dinosaur.
Put it in gr8 perspective.
P.S. watching Oprah today. Had 2 guys out of Seattle Washington that are making Bacconaise. Couldn't help but think of you.
I came for the EMS stories, but I stay for the happy AD.
(Already bought the book--twice, once for me and once for a friend.)
I bookmarked you for the EMS, SOL, Sumdood diaries. If it is one of your gun days, I'll skim through it but I'm dissapointed there's no new EMS info. But no biggie, I can just check on Nurse K and see what she has written.
fwiw, there are a lot of good gun blogs/sites out there but very few really good EMS blogs (plenty of sucky ones though).
And EMS whenever you can.
I've enjoyed the EMS writing as I'm a hospital employee; I'm glad I didn't go into EMS work but appreciate the tales from the field.
When you write about family and friends, I can always relate to that, the caring, warm and funny relationships. The humor - oh gosh - I've laughed so hard I've gone into wheezing fits! :D
The guns - hey, that's fine, too, as it brings to mind fond memories of my dear Dad with his gun collection, when I helped him load ammo when I was a kid and the target practicing in the backyard. He and I had such good times.
When you write about what happens in your day, sometimes I feel like we're all experiencing it with you because the reality of the situation rings so true.
Keep writing what pleases you - and you can count on us to be there!
How could you go wrong with that?
Dylan
Good luck, Krista Leuning
vw: sagones ... is that what happens to guys in their 70s?
Now that I'm only a short time away from getting my EMT-B license (and yeah, I'm going on to Paramedic) I find myself learning just as much from your non-EMS stories as from the Saga of Sumdood.
Keep writing about life, whatever is in it that makes you happy, and may you have much more of the same.
And get back to work, will ya? Obviously the only thing we all don't like is when you don't put up a new entry! ;-)
I do need some Star of Life already dude!
I'm a huge fan of your EMS posts! I enjoy the medicine, your perspecives on the patients and families, your experiences with nurses and doctors, and laughing with you about partner experiences. Thanks for filling us in on what that's all about!
I read your blog coz I like what you write, if a piece doesn't interest me then I will skip it and read the next. I always come back tho.
Angie
Write stuff that makes you want to come and read your blog. Write what's on your mind and in your heart. We don't need blog drones. It's your blog brau. And it's a good one.
That story has to keep going my friend, it's brilliant!
I also enjoy your EMS pieces, though I understand job burnout and the need to take a break.
You keep writing; I'll keep reading.
It's your blog, so you get to say what goes on here and what doesn't.
If the particular story you posted that day doesn't seem to appeal to me, or any other reader, then we can simply just skip it. No harm, no foul.
The point of blogging for a lot of people is to put out there what they are thinking, stories of their lives, etc. Each piece of your life is a part of you, and it's natural for you to want to share that. So keep sharing! We are here to listen, comment, and keep coming back for more.
But above all, write whatever keeps you from burning out
I love the blog. If I want more EMS based bloggage I'll go elsewhere - from your blogroll!
If I don't like one of your blogs I'll stop reading and come back for the next one.
May i suggest not trying to 'please all the people all the time' but just having a good time for yourself? Your true kinsmen will stay with you through it all.
I'm not a big fan of guns. I don't feel comfortable around them, and know little or nothing about them. That said - I'm sure you probably aren't overly conversant in some of my hobbies, so whatever floats your boat is fine by me. Not everyone enjoys the same things - which is nice, because if we all did, none of us could afford to play!
Write about what you enjoy. I enjoy reading what you write. I can even hear the "Southern" sometimes, one of those things that makes us yankee girls swoon.
:)
The gun stuff? I find it dull. I also think it doesn't have to be that way; I'm not into hunting, either, but I enjoyed your hunting stories. You obviously love it though, so why not take a different approach to writing about it? Ditch all the freedom/2nd ammendment stuff; you'll notice that writers, despite also having a hobby/profession deeply entwined with constitutional rights in the U.S., don't go on about it so much. Instead, figure out what it is about your hobby that shares that thing within the human spirit that gets people into hobbies. Imagine that instead of being a gun fan you're a trainspotter, and you need to demonstrate to others how humans find joy in something. Then you'd probably make a lot of converts, because I suspect that guns are more interesting than trains to most people. (I find them about equally interesting myself--well, maybe trains a bit more.)
