However, there have been a few incidents where the sudden awareness of the

presence

of my gun has quickly diffused any potential for ugliness.

And law enforcement here has been generally

very supportive

of our rights and responsibilities as gun owners, even opening the police range to us civilians and holding clinics.

Don't know which I would identify as my compensatory "penis" though...

Would it be the whalloping fast and potent .357 Magnum, or the slow... thick...

sack-dropping load

of my .45ACP?

And what about my long, deep-hitting,

powerful .308

with its extending stock and... its

ribbed barrel guard?

Oh, Oh! OH... Damn.

I think I need to go... uh...

clean my guns.

;D

Re: Why Yes, Happy Hospitalist….

This is a problem with blaming the gun for crime, or for misbehavior, or for creating an environment of intimidation, is that the gun is just a tool. Used by a law abiding person, there is no reason to be intimidated.

The same is true for anything that requires

more responsibility

to be used appropriately. In stead, our society panics about risks that are not understood. We implement laws to protect us from our fears, not to protect us from reality. This fear mongering leads us to ignore genuine threats.

I do not own any guns. I do not have any desire to own any guns. Someone carrying a gun openly is indicating being responsible enough to have obtained a permit to carry. This are not the kind of person who misuses guns.

Re: Why Yes, Happy Hospitalist….

I keep my wrench in the toolbox and I don't walk around town holding a golf club.

I totally could though, its not illegal.

Re: Why Yes, Happy Hospitalist….

"Is it possible to openly carry a weapon without the weapon weighing constantly and heavily on one's mind?"

Flat out impossible.

That's why you see police officers preening in every available reflective surface, because they're worried how their gun looks.

Re: Why Yes, Happy Hospitalist….

All of *this* was about *that*? Jesus.

I'd normally say something profound like "Get a life" (to you now, and to Happy the Hospitalist on almost any occasion), but you both appear to have lives. At least, there is a lot of open preening going on about something.

And besides after John most excellently opined, well -- meh! And heh! Yeah! Shouldn't he get some kind of award for perspicacity?

I have a question: Is it possible to openly carry a weapon without the weapon weighing constantly and heavily on one's mind? (How do I look? How do I look now? How does my weapon look? How do I look? How fast can I get a bead on -- No, wait... How do I look now?)

Re: Why Yes, Happy Hospitalist….

isn't always best _not_ to feed the trolls?

Re: Why Yes, Happy Hospitalist….

AD-
lost my mouthful of coke on your last comment...lmao

Re: Why Yes, Happy Hospitalist….

"Simple answer, because ambulance driver has a small penis and is over-compensating for it.

USMC."

Dang, let one Marine see your penis, and suddenly he's stalking your blog anonymously.

That's it. I'm interested in answer's from people whose answer would be based on real life experience. For instance, the people who were in the immigration center in New York a couple of weeks ago when a crazed gunman broke in and starting shooting innocent people. If there had been one person there with a firearm and the training to effectively stop that threat the outcome would have been much different. There are further examples too numerous to mention of similiar instances, from armed robberies where the robber decided to kill everybody anyway even after he got the money to random nursing home and school shootings.

People who freak out over an honest man with a gun would be absolutely outraged if a fire occurred in a public building that wasn't equipped with sprinklers and smoke detectors. Even though the instances of random violence and shootings far outnumber the amount of fire instances that actually take lives. They expect everyone to prepare for a fire but ignore the more prevalent threat.

Why?

I think the thought of the wolf coming to prey on them and their children is too distressing for them to wrap their mind around, so like sheep, they deny the existence of the threat. When they see the man with the gun it reminds them that evil exist in the world and they are completely unprepared to meet that threat.

Col. Grossman wrote a piece, http://www.killology.com/sh..., which I think perfectly describes this choice and the mindset of those who make it. AD has a large, loyal audience. Blog Traffic 101 tells you to go leave comments on others' blogs, and we all know from Oscar Wilde that the only thing worse than having bad things said about you is not having

anything

said about you.

And with that in mind, I'll quit feeding the troll, and go back to praying open carry passes here in Texas.

Re: Why Yes, Happy Hospitalist….

" Montana Chick said...

*sigh* I just don't understand people who think its a bad thing to carry a weapon."

That's because

they

don't trust people who carry guns. In their limited worldview, guns = bad+death, so anyone who carries a firearm is a potential beady eyed killer just waiting to murder as many innocents as possible. The concept that a law abiding citizen would use a firearm to protect themselves or another person is completely alien to them. Only those in military or police departments should be allowed to carry firearms; the general public is too stupid, or too emotional, or whatever the reason du jour is, to be allowed to possess firearms.

Of course any competent student of history knows what will eventually happen when only governmental authorities can legally possess firearms.

Re: Why Yes, Happy Hospitalist….

Oh AD, I adore you. Not into guns and such myself, but being an opinionated b****, I am jumping in to this one. Not against RESPONSIBLE gun ownership and use, although I'd probably give more than one glance at someone carrying in Walmart, and wonder 'why?' My feeling is that if your using them for sport, for fun, fine. If you have one for protection, it's only good if it's loaded, safety off and in your hand when you need it. Not usually the case. Anyway: my thoughts on some gun control legislation stuff at: http://randomthoughtsideasg... for anyone with time to read the lengthy post.
Oh, and the only time I want a penis is when I have to pee in the woods.
