Castr8r · 1 year agoBeen there; done that!- 'cept it was deer hunting in Pike Co.,Illannoys. My late wife couldn't understand why I was so happy with the hunt even though I got skunked. I really admire your ability to to put the experience in words. Mother Nature is a Bitch, but she has some marvelous rewards.

Matt G · 1 year agoI've never done that kind of duck hunting. < />< />When I was a little boy, I used to join Dad on his duck hunting trips. No dog, and the decoys were arranged at the edge of a large stock tank. Cold. So very cold. I recall some times where I wondered if I could ever warm my hands up. Watching Dad drink hot coffee that I couldn't stomach, wishing it were cocoa. Never getting to shoot. Bored. Cold. < />< />Next week: "You want to go hunting with me in the morning, son?" < />< />"Sure, Dad!"< />< />What the hell was I thinking? :)

chris · 1 year agoI am also a shooter, rather than a hunter. Gave up shooting whitetail years ago. I used to do some quail and pheasant hunting in SW Missouri fields, but even that I haven't done in a decade. < />< />I've always said, if I knew someone with a good dog, I'd love to go after pheasant or quail again. Watching a good dog work was always the best part of a hunt.< />< />Your article makes me want to pick up a Brittany pup and start training it! I'm sure my wife's carpet rat (shih-tzu) would just _love_ the idea :)< />< />Thanks!

In all the time I knew him, I never knew what duck hunting was like, since he never told us much about his hunting trips and I was too young to go with him. Your story was a gift, since now I know what his experiences could have been like. Thank you, Sir.

donnathedead · 1 year agoI taught my son to hunt and fish, he's so crazy about fishing all his friends call him fish, and his son fishie. < />He just called me over the weekend to tell me he'd taken my grandson hunting duck in NV where they live. I am forwarding this to him. He will understand it completely. < />I have his yellow lab, he had no where to keep her, he got her to duck hunt, but I don't know how to train her. It's too bad too cuz I think she would be great at it, as well as my black lab I already had. I don't hunt anymore, I hunt with a camera now, but damn, this story brought back memories!
